Along with his creative work, the poet G.Mend-Ooyo is known as an important cultural figure who, for many years, has been working to revive, study and preserve the historical culture of Mongolia. Between 1990 and 1996, he directed the realisation of the Migjid Chenrezig complex, a commemoration of Mongolia's history and culture. One of his most important recent contributions to this has been the Suvdan Sondor research trip. The seven trips thus far taken, representing one aspect of the Mongolian Cultural Fund, were this last summer increased by two, with one to Dorngovi and one to Sühbaatar, resulting in a small conference, the staging of an exhibition, and the publication of an accompanying book.

While working at Hörgiin Höndii in Dariganga, the team of “Suvdan Sondor 9” discovered a more than 1000 years old “Stone Man”, which provides new information for science. Through Mend-Ooyo's efforts, one of these figures was identified, and so added to the historical and cultural fund of Dariganga.
